The U.S. Halts Some Pledged Weapons to Ukraine

The U.S is halting some weapons to Ukraine amid concerns about its stockpiles. This pause was determined after the Pentagon did a review of stockpiles and raised concerns. The review was conducted after the Pentagon received a new set of priorities from the Trump Administration.

“This decision was made to put America’s interests first following a review of our nation’s military support and assistance to other countries across the globe,” White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said in a statement. “The strength of the United States Armed Forces remains unquestioned — just ask Iran.”

The Pentagon determined some weapons’ stockpiles were too low and would no longer be sent to Ukraine. According to the AP, the Pentagon did not announce a list of weapons.

However, the New York Post reported that the White House confirmed 155 mm artillery rounds, Patriot air defense, Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System, Stinger, AIM-7, and Hellfire missiles bound for Ukraine would not be shipped.

This announcement couldn’t come at a tougher time for Ukraine, as Russia has conducted a summer offensive in the Sumy and Donetsk regions and is pummeling Ukrainian cities with ballistic missiles and drones. Ukraine needs artillery and air defense weapons to counter Russia’s attacks, especially against innocent civilians and children who are dying as a result.

While maintaining healthy weapons stockpiles is in U.S. national interests, more so is defending NATO’s eastern flank and supporting an Ally like Ukraine, which is degrading one of America’s greatest adversaries. By degrading Russia’s military with American-made weapons today, Ukraine is ensuring the United States won’t need those weapons and more tomorrow to fight an emboldened Russia.

America First means standing with our Allies through both the good and tough times. In turn, we would expect the same support from them.

The American Ukraine PAC calls upon the Trump Administration to reverse this decision and fulfill our commitments to Ukraine.
